Heritage meets speed: Building the Albion Isle of Man TT Knitwear Store
When existing client Albion Knitting Co. asked us to create a dedicated web store for this heritage collection, we knew the platform needed to capture both the adrenaline of TT racing and the craftsmanship of the Island’s newest luxury manufacturer.
Albion Knitting Co., a Kings Award Winner for International Trade, relocated their factory to the Isle of Man in 2024.
For founders Chris Murphy and Jamie O’Neil, the move presented an opportunity to reconnect with their Celtic roots while fusing their passion for motorcycling with their professional expertise in premium knitwear.
The result: an officially licensed Isle of Man TT collection featuring a full-zip, quarter-zip and hoodie crafted in Albion’s signature Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino and assembled with precision in their IOM factory.
the job
We were briefed to design and build an e-commerce platform for Albion’s official IOM TT knitwear range.
The store needed to showcase the premium quality and unique details of each garment while maintaining clear connections to the existing Albion brand.
Most importantly, it required a seamless mobile shopping experience for customers browsing on the go.
our approach
To preserve the integrity of both the London-based Albion Knitting School and Yarn Store and the new Isle of Man TT collection, we built the store on a sub-domain. This strategic decision allowed us to separate the e-commerce element from the main site without fragmenting the brand experience, giving each offering its own distinct space while maintaining cohesion across the Albion digital ecosystem.
We drew on the hero creative style developed for the main Albion site, adopting the existing colour palette and large-scale graphic placements that define the brand’s visual language. This approach created natural continuity between platforms while allowing the TT Shop to establish its own identity.
Understanding that imagery was paramount to selling these premium pieces, we designed product pages with full-width galleries that showcase both the overall garment and the intricate details that make each piece special. The result is an easily navigable shop with a streamlined yet elevated user experience, fully responsive for mobile browsing and shopping.
“Westbrook give a focused and straightforward insight about how to prepare a company’s online presence. The team are quick and direct with questions and advice and product follows thereafter. They’re not afraid to challenge client thinking which is refreshing.”
— Christian Murphy, CEO, Albion Knitting Co.
project notes
To immediately immerse visitors in the world of the TT range, we created a short video reel for the homepage that roots the collection in the heritage of the TT races and the Isle of Man’s dramatic landscape.
The reel weaves together product shots, footage of TT riders in motion, and sweeping views of the Island’s stunning scenery, establishing an immediate emotional connection between the craftsmanship of the knitwear and the exhilaration of the world’s most dangerous motorcycle race.
